AiLa is your on-demand legal assistant for fast, dependable contract review and access to expert legal support. This guide explains how to use AiLa, how credits work, the Word Add-in, buying legal services, and answers the most common questions.

1. What is AiLa?

AiLa is a legal document review and legal-services request platform built by specialist lawyers, including former Magic Circle practitioners.
It combines legal expertise with advanced AI to deliver:

  • Fast and dependable contract reviews
  • Accurate risk analysis without hallucinations
  • Expert legal oversight when needed
  • No LLM lock-in
  • Full security and privacy (your data is not used to train any models)

AiLa removes the uncertainty and time drain of reviewing contracts manually or using general-purpose AI tools.

4. Supported Document Types

AiLa document review

  • .docx (preferred)
  • .pdf (machine-readable)
  • .doc (converted automatically to .docx)

Quote requests

  • Any file type accepted
  • No restrictions on format or size

5. Credits Explained

AiLa uses credits to process documents. Different document types use different credit amounts depending on length and complexity.
Your account dashboard displays credit usage for each category.

Bulk Discounting

Buying larger credit bundles provides discounted rates.

VAT

Pricing is shown exclusive or inclusive of VAT depending on region.
VAT is clearly displayed at checkout.

6. Buying Credits

  1. Open the AiLa web app
  2. Go to Buy More Credits
  3. Choose a package
  4. Pay securely via Stripe
  5. Credits appear immediately in your account and can be used by any of your organisation’s approved users

An invoice is emailed automatically.

7. Adding Users

If you are an organisation admin:

  1. Go to Your Profile in the top right corner
  2. Select Manage Users
  3. Click +Add
  4. Enter their details
  5. Assign permissions (Admin or Standard User)

All users share your organisation’s credit pool unless restricted.

8. Setting Up MFA

  1. Go to Security Settings
  2. Select Enable Multi-Factor Authentication
  3. Choose an authenticator app
  4. Follow the on-screen steps
  5. Store backup codes safely

Admins can manage MFA resets for all users.

9. Submitting a Document

  1. Click New AI Contract
  2. Choose your document type
  3. Create a name for your file (e.g. NDA – Microsoft)
  4. Upload your file
  5. Confirm the credit cost
  6. Submit for review

Review times vary by document length and complexity, but most complete within 1 hour.

10. Receiving AiLa Results

You receive two files by email:

1. RAG Report
A summary of key risks and recommended actions.

2. Reviewed Document
A Word file with tracked changes and comments.
Important: the file name includes a prefix (e.g. 111-39494-39494). Do not rename it if using the AiLa Microsoft Word Add-in for interactive review.

11. Word Add-in Installation

Requirements

  • Active AiLa licence
  • Microsoft 365 account
  • Word 2019+ or Word for Microsoft 365

How to install

  1. Open Microsoft Word
  2. Select Insert → Add-ins → Get Add-ins
  3. Search for AiLa
  4. Click Add
  5. Alternatively, the application can be installed from the Microsoft AppSource store if your Microsoft Word Add-ins store is restricted by your organisation – instructions will be available in the AiLa application after purchasing licenses.
  6. Log in with your licensed Microsoft 365 account

12. Requesting a Legal Service Quote

  1. Click New Legal Service Quote Request
  2. Choose the relevant area of law and jurisdiction – this will ensure an appropriately qualified and experienced lawyer will receive your work request
  3. Write detailed instructions to the lawyer
  4. Attach any supporting documents (any file type)
  5. Submit your request

A lawyer reviews your request and provides a time estimate – please allow some time for the lawyer to receive, review and return your quote request.
You then pay securely via Stripe, and your lawyer will contact you to progress the matter. You will receive an email asking you to confirm the quote.

13. What if My Contract Type Isn’t Listed?

If you have a document outside the standard categories (e.g., franchise agreements, complex commercial frameworks, or enterprise workflows):

  • Contact our sales team to discuss a Bespoke/Enterprise implementation of AiLa
  • Use a legal services quote request for tailored legal support

AiLa can also support custom configurations for enterprise clients.

How long does a review take?
Most reviews complete within minutes, but please allow up to an hour.

Can I upload scanned PDFs?
OCR PDFs may work, but accuracy is lower. Machine-readable documents are recommended.

Do credits expire?
Credits do not expire for most plans.

Can my team share credits?
Yes. Credits are shared by default unless restricted in settings.

Is my data secure?
Yes. Documents are processed securely and never used for training AI models.
